John King is a Professor of Chinese History at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of several books on Chinese history, including The Great Leap Forward: A Cultural Revolution in Rural China (1991) and The End of the Mandate of Heaven: Chinese Rebellions from the Yellow Turbans to the Taiping (2010).
